Driving Principles for our English Curriculum:
For students to engage with ‘Big Ideas’ in literature:
→ Viewpoint and Perspective
→ Themes of Power, Responsibility, Identity.
Driving Aims for English:
Develop personal engagement with texts supporting students to see how what they read has relevance and resonance with their own lives and how literature is relevant to them.
Enable students to develop a critical viewpoint and empower students to express views in an appropriate academic style (both in writing and in speech).
Develop students’ conscious control and manipulation of language so that they can clearly and persuasively express their own ideas and thinking.
Details of the termly intent of each term, for each of our year goups, is available in the drop-down options below.
Our Knowledge Organisers are 'learning mats' that have been designed to contain all of the key learning for that subject's topic. Our students will use these within their lessons but are also encouraged to use them to support their own learning, homework, and for revision.
Our English KOs are available below; separated into year group/key stage.
