⌂ HOME > ABOUT US > EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY
Walker Riverside Academy is an inclusive school where equality is paramount; where the well-being and progress of every child and all members of our community are of equal worth.
We are committed to valuing diversity; tackling discrimination, harassment and victimisation; promoting equality; advancing equality of opportunity and fostering good relationships between people.
At Walker Riverside Academy equality and opportunity are championed and encouraged whenever possible. Every member of staff will promote these values throughout every aspect of Academy life. We have an incredible pastoral care system that supports students in fulfilling their opportunities whilst also ensuring their safeguarding is of the utmost priority. All students at Walker are treated equally and we have robust and established systems in place to ensure these principles are upheld. At Walker, we pride ourselves in the quality of our pastoral care, ensuring our students flourish during their time here.
As part of our PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT CURRICULUM, students are taught about the Protected Characteristics - nine attributes which it is a criminal offence to discriminate against:
► sex,
► sex and sexual orientation,
► age,
► disability,
► gender reassignment,
► marriage and civil partnership,
► pregnancy and maternity,
► race,
► religion or belief.
As an Academy we promote equality and tackle discrimination based on these characteristics. We believe that it is essential to ensure that all students have equal access to opportunities and resources, regardless of their background or identity.
For more details about how we approach equality and how we ensure that we continually strive for equality throughout our Academy and our wider community, please view our Equality Policy.
The Academy is required to establish at least one equality objective to address any areas of inequality, or possible inequality, identified as part of our analysis. This information is available for you to download or view below.
Our HOPE Ambassadors were elected to represent our students, with the intention of Helping Others Purse Equality.
Their remit is to:
"Celebrate diversity and inclusivity at Walker Riverside Academy so ALL students can thrive."
Students can contact our HOPE Ambassadors directly with any issues they wish to be addressed or raised with within the Academy.
Alternatively, they can visit Miss Hart (in Science).
