In nurturing students to be RESILIENT, RESPONSIBLE, AMBITION, COMPASSIONATE, and COLLABORATIVE we are supporting students for the challenges they face daily, whilst also preparing to give them the qualities and skills they will require in adulthood.
We ask our students to 'COMMIT' to our Academy pledges by committing to:
100% ATTENDANCE
A BULLY-FREE ACADEMY
POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR
THEIR OWN MENTAL HEALTH
We believe that students who are punctual and achieve a high level of attendance have a better opportunity of leaving school with better qualifications and access to greater employment opportunities.
As an Academy we will:
- Create a positive Academy ethos where regular attendance is valued;
- Implement initiatives to promote attendance and punctuality;
- Monitor and respond quickly to any student absence;
- Work in partnership with students, parents and external agencies; and
- Meet all legal requirements regarding recording and documenting attendance.
DID YOU KNOW?
BEAT THE BELL
If you miss just 15 minutes of your lessons a day (that's only 3 minutes to each lesson!), by the end of the academic year that adds up to 1.5 weeks of learning lost!
Between our lessons, students have a 5 minute transition period to get to their next lesson before it begins.
Frequent lates will result in students receiving detentions to make up the learning they have lost.
ATTENDANCE COMPETITIONS
DECEMBER 2023
Our first attendance competition of the academic year, '12 days of Christmas', was our movie themed initiative.
Our daily prize draws saw students winning cinema and roller discos trips, a 90 minute gaming bus session, food from McDonalds, Kaspa’s & Friez & Burgz. We had vouchers galore plus loads of mystery gifts!!
MARCH 2024
March saw our students collecting 'Golden Tickets' for their 100% attendance. Those IN TO WIN won an afternoon on inflatable games, right here on our Academy site. Assault courses, football darts, the unclimbable ladder and much more were here to celebrate those who had collected their 4 golden tickets.
MAY 2024
Our 'May Madness' attendance drive saw those students with 100% attendance, during the last 3 weeks of term, entered into one of two challenges. Years 7, 8 and 9 were entered into daily prize draws to win restaurant vouchers, bluetooth speakers, airpods, and shopping vouchers! Our Year 10 students had the opportunity to take a trip to InflateSpace.
JULY 2024
Every student who was in school from Monday 24th June - Friday 19th July was eligible to enjoy our 'Summer Days' attendance party.
Karaoke, ice cream and sweet vans, and a BBQ were the perks for our 100% attendance winners.
Not only this, but daily prize draws in the last week saw students winning vouchers for food, shopping and games!
Here at WRA we have a zero policy on bullying. It is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
However, we are aware that even with the extensive procedures we have in place (including anti-bullying toilets, extra staffing duties in communal times, our pastoral structure and an anti-bullying message taught within our Personal Development curriculum) incidents of bullying will occur.
As a 'telling' school, students pledge to #breakthesilence and speak up if they are being, or see someone being bullied.
REPORT BULLYING
If you/ your child has experienced a case of bullying, please click your child's school logo below and complete the form and select SUBMIT.
All forms will be followed up as soon as possible by school staff.
Our Academy expectations are embodied within our curriculum intent to ensure all students are:
ready to learn,
allow others to learn,
have equipment,
listen actively,
ask and answer questions.
respectful of others,
kind to others,
responsible for our own actions.
proud of our academy environment,
aware of the changing world around us.
relentless,
resourceful,
always aiming high.
We embody this curriculum intent within all of our subjects alongside our bespoke Pastoral curriculum. Each morning registration sessions focus upon one of the above themes, helping students to develop a positive understanding of the behaviours expected.
"Mental health is a combination of our thoughts and feelings which, if positive, enables us to be happy and cope with life's stresses and challenges."
Mental Health Champions, Walker Riverside Academy
At Walker Riverside Academy we are here to promote positive attitudes and behaviours towards mental health and wellbeing.
This we will work towards by developing the protective factors which build resilience to mental health problems and to be a school where:
→ All students are valued.
→ Students have a sense of belonging and feel safe.
→ Students feel able to talk openly with trusted adults about their problems without feeling any stigma.
→ Positive mental health is promoted and valued.
→ Bullying is not tolerated in support of our 'COMMIT' pledge.
For more information on our approach to supporting mental wellbeing at WRA, or for organisations/charities who can offer further support, visit our MENTAL WELLBEING page.
